Safety & Side Effects of PLAVIX

Remember, your doctor is the single best source of information regarding your health. Please consult your doctor if you have any questions about your health, your medicine, or experience any side effects of PLAVIX.

PLAVIX is generally well-tolerated, but it is not for everyone. Your therapy is designed for your individual condition and medical history. Discuss with your doctor any side effects of PLAVIX you may experience. Your doctor will explain if there are any circumstances under which you should discontinue your therapy.

PLAVIX—its effectiveness has been proven and the safety profile supported by multiple clinical studies

PLAVIX has been the focus of extensive research, studies, and scientific findings. The effectiveness of PLAVIX has been proven and the safety profile supported by 3 large clinical studies involving over 60,000 patients who have had a heart attack or been hospitalized with heart-related chest pain. For more than 11 years, doctors have written PLAVIX prescriptions to over 100 million people. If you have a stomach ulcer or other condition that causes bleeding, you should not use PLAVIX. Taking PLAVIX alone or with some other medicines, including aspirin, may increase bleeding risk, so tell your doctor when planning surgery. Certain genetic factors and some medicines, such as Prilosec, may affect how PLAVIX works. Tell your doctor all the medicines you take, including aspirin, especially if you've had a stroke. If fever, unexplained weakness or confusion develops, tell your doctor promptly. These may be signs of TTP, a rare but potentially life-threatening condition, reported sometimes less than 2 weeks after starting PLAVIX. Other rare but serious side effects may occur.

In clinical trials, the most common side effects of PLAVIX were severe itching (pruritus), a severe rash characterized by the appearance of purplish spots or patches (purpura), diarrhea, and rash. Less common, but serious, side effects of PLAVIX may occur.

Tell your doctor if you have any bleeding or other problems while you are taking PLAVIX.

Did You Know?

Two studies involved over 48,000 patients who had a suspected heart attack caused by a completely blocked artery. These studies determined that PLAVIX taken with aspirin goes beyond what other heart medicines do alone to provide greater protection against a heart attack, stroke, and even death. PLAVIX helps save lives in patients who survive a heart attack due to a completely blocked artery.
